Left to descendants mercy...2

Greece, Aegean Sea, Cyklades, island of Siros
Siros, the capital of Cyklades, one of the islands that flourished during Ottoman occupation due to the gallant sea merchants that traded along Mediteranean.
In the photo their famous neighbourhood, called Vaporia(Vaporia in greek= ships) named as that because the imposing mansions were virtually built on the sea resembling ship decks... Now these houses passed as heritage to descendants that, the majority of them, hardly can afford the...plumber fees! So they remain there deserted reminiscent of a glorius past....

so close to the sea - very picturesque, but I can imagine the salty air doing damage to the old houses ...colour and a blue sky would probably make this look romantic, but black and white tells a different story !!!
    greetings, Adele

Only the state or a very strong and adventurer big-shot investor, as you say, dear Sabine, could possibly afford to exploit them for tourism as they are huge, invaded by moisture and constantly needing repair in order to survive...

if nobody "claims" them, the sea might one day… hard to imagine that these houses have no lobby and are more or less left to themselves. they are surrounded by such an irresistibly nostalgic, grand and exotic maritime aura! in fact, one would almost assume they'd all long be exploited for tourism by some big-shot investor. a great interesting shot, as always, alexander. for someone who's never been to greece, like me, these images are like visual and virtual voyage! ; ) greetings, sabine.

A superb shot of these 'seaside mansions'....it is such a shame that now the owners cannot afford the upkeep of them. They seem as though they would make great apartments for people to live in.......not just for tourists.

    :))
