Hagia Sophia - Istanbul
Die Hagia Sophia (aus dem griechischen Ἁγία Σοφία „heilige Weisheit“, türkisch Ayasofya) oder Sophienkirche ist eine ehemalige byzantinische Kirche, spätere Moschee und heutiges Museum (Ayasofya Camii Müzesi, „Hagia-Sophia-Moschee-Museum“) in Eminönü, einem Stadtteil im europäischen Teil Istanbuls. Als Kuppelbasilika errichtet, setzte sie im 6. Jahrhundert n. Chr. neue architektonische Akzente. Die Hagia Sophia, das letzte große Bauwerk der Spätantike, war die Hauptkirche des Byzantinischen Reiches und religiöser Mittelpunkt der Orthodoxie und ist heute ein Wahrzeichen Istanbuls.
