Green House

The green houses of Reykholt are heated by hot springs and thus allow to grow plants, that would otherwise not survive the Icelandic climate such as tomatoes and cucumbers. However, during winter the short daylight hours from 10.30am through 4.30pm do not suffice, so the green houses have to be lighted. Those lamps are so powerful, it seemed the entire cloudy sky was lighted by them – a beam of light could be seen from as far as 30km or more.
