Ascending Diavolezza

Diavolezza (Italian for little she-devil) is one of the tall mountains in Switzerland's
Bernina Range whose top can be reached by cable car from the valley floor.

Clouds were shrouding the valley below, bringing drizzle, no visibility above,
and not much hope for stunning vistas at the top of the cable car line.

But when we broke through the cloud deck on our way up to the plateau at 2,973 metres/9,753 feet,
bright alpine autumn sunshine painted the scene, bringing out the craggy textures of the surrounding
peaks and the snow-covered glaciers, all against a deep blue, cumulus-bedecked sky.

From a film image, shot on this date in 2010. The photograph makes its first appearance here today.

That´s really a great shot, seemingly well composed(or just released shutter in the right moment by a routined photographer!), showing the "grandezza" and overwhelming majesty of this mountain range to perfection!

powerful landscape image - very dramatic perspective and the majesty of the scene is highlighted by the monotones and the subtle details of cloud and the delicate geometry of the cables
