A rare fungus this one, standing on the Red List of vulnerable and threatened species !
A specific feature of this species is that it smells a bit like (bad) fish.
For one reason or another, there exists no English name for this fungus.
Dutch name : Oranje Zalmplaat
German name : Gelbfuchsiger Tellerling
Latin name : Rhodocybe nitellina
i agree: a very beautiful shot with the precious fungus growing right out of that little piece of humus and presenting every single detail of its perfect honey-colored cap! lg, sabine. p.s.: i'm glad the stench doesn't put all creatures off – the mosquito doesn't seem to mind ; )…
Les champignons sont à l'honneur en ce mois d'octobre !
Bravo pour ce très beau spécimen et son locataire momentané ;-))
Excellente photo, Mark !
Amitiés,
