Phaestos second urban center, after capital Knossos, at the times of Minoan civilization in ancient Greece.

Phaestos, first referenced by Homer as a "densely" populated city was a complex of three cities that king Minos of the famous Cretan Minoan dynasty united around 2000 BC under one metropolis and became the second important urban settlement after the ruling capital Knossos under whose dependency Phaestos remained for ever. The first settlement though in this area dates back to the Neolithic era around 4000 BC. Around 1400BC the invading stong Mycenians from Greek inland destroyed Knossos as well as Phaestos.
In the photo, a woman steps on the palace remnants where, around 2000 BC, walked the royal feet of the Minoan dynasty...

fascinating to see the different shapes of stones arranged in different directions. remarkable the round ones that almost look like an eye monitoring the flow of history.
