The Fungi World (119) : White Slime Mold

The Fungi Kingdom consists of some amazing and fascinating creatures, like the ‘mysterious’ slime molds.

The White Slime Mold is usually growing after heavy rain on old well-rotted logs in damp and shady forest areas, because there it can find the moisture and bacteria required for survival.

It’s a creeping sponge-like fungus that moves very slowly over the dead wood and can easily change its body shape while all parts remain connected by tubular structures.

The White Slime Mold is regarded as a white colour variety of the Dog Vomit Slime Mold which you can see in the picture below.

Dutch name : Wit kalkkussen
German name : Weisse Lohblüte
Latin name : Fuligo septica var. candida

What purpose does it serve in the environment?
Does any animal feed on this "delicious" looking fungus?
I guess it does? Anyway, hard too decide which one looks more encouriging: the white one or the yellow VOMIT version?:))
