false econamy?
i am hoping to by a macro lens for my 300d and was wandering if any of the not quite so expensive lenses would do an adiquate job or are they substancially inferior to the cannon ones? this can somtimes be a very expensive hobby! any sugestions would be apreciated. oh to Rob and Kein, thanks for your advice, the jigsaw is a work in progress.

well - i have seen some poor reviews of the canon standard lenses and have seen glorious reviews of non-canon lenses so the answer according to what I have read is that canon is not necessarily better ... the Canon L series may be a different story and a whole different price bracket - go to www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/
Thanks Paul. That is a really good website, very useful, but i am still confused about what to look for. there ia a whole host of macro lenses with all kinds of features. should it be telephoto? I have a canon 75-300 which doesnt do a bad job of fairly close up work, but it has a minimum focusing distance of 1.5m. any advise is apreciated. cheers Rob.
