I am looking to buy a printer that will give me good b/w prints without the colour cast that i get with the Canon i865 printer that i have. I would really appreciate your suggestions.

Though I don't have too much experience with different printers, I think it's essential that the printer is working with black ink. There are quite some printers on the market which have them.
I currently use the Canon iP6600D for A4 prints, and so far I am very pleased with it, also for b/w.
In A3 format Epson 2400 is said to be good especially for b/w, but also the new A3 printers from Canon seem to be interesting.
And there are alos some b/w specialist inks on the market, for some printers...
Hope that helps a little...

The Epson R2400 is the way to go, Superb in B&W great in Colorprints, I use the Ilford Smooth Pearl paper and do the printing with Qimage, a great combination.

I have been using an Epson 4800 printer lately and it gives BW prints without colour cast. It has three cartridges with different shades of black ink. I also know that it uses some of the colour inks when it prints BW, but I have not spotted any colour cast yet. It also uses one cartridge of the darkest black when you use glossed paper and another cartridge of the darkest black when you use matted paper. And there are lots of different paper you can chose to use to get the look you are after. It is not the newest model, and I think printers will develop ways to make better prints, both colour and BW, as new models are available.
