I went for the Sigma as I figured that by paying half price I couldn't lose. It has done very well although as I once read before, images seem to come out a little more yellow than my nikon lenses and need adjusting. Also Ive noticed that the more I pay for high quality Nikon glass the sharper the images, (of course).
I think Tokina the best among them...
My vote goes to tokina 12-24mm, for half the price of nikon, no regret.
When I bought my Nikon 12-24 the Tokina was not available. The Nikon is an amazing lens and I also use on a 35mm analog (F100) camera from 18mm!!!!!!
I think Ken Rockwell is not the good source of the information. He loves the newest staff and sometimes he is not down the Earth. Better to ask real users...
i use tokina 11-16 with my D90 and it is excellent lense
tokina 11-16 works for me the best
I own TWO (!) Tamron 11-18 z(for Nikon and Sony) - because you get used ones at about 200 Pounds.
They are far from perfection, but they do the job.
Far more important than the lenses are the light, the idea, the composition.
