touch the snow

My first experience with the sigma dp1s perplexed me. The 4.7MP shows the same detail quality as my old 12MP D200. Furthermore there is no color distributions on homogeneous grey areas. At the moment I can't understand the mainstream on the Bayer chip. The foveon chip has real color and real pixel, bayer calculates 4 pixel for this.

Last saturday the sigma was my companion on the family skiing day. I had some great motives with fresh powder and hoar. Taking picture was not so easy, cause the pocket cam has no viewfinder and the screen was not so usable on this harsh light with sun and snow. After doing some shots I could guess the crop of the 28mm prime. But it was not possible to check the histogram on monitor. At home I was surprised on the result, the metering works good in harsh light. No blown out lights and more details in shadow that I'm accustomed with d700 in snow motives. It seems the foveon sensor have a better dynamic range. To works against the sun is a weakness here, if the lens is not in shadow. I see big flare with green or purple tones.
