This is not a perfect picture - I couldn't get closer. But it is special because it is a Northern Flicker - Hybrid with Yellow-Shafted Flicker or Gilded Flicker, Colaptes aureatus.

Birds offen test the limits of our equimpment. They are still fun to shoot. Sometimes you get a gem like this.Richard
