Secure both hasps before moving car

I was a little bored this weekend and didn't really know what to shoot so I went back to work on trains and motion and trying to focus on either words or graffiti.

Panning Technique- Shutter Priority Mode, Shutter speed between 1/15 - 1/30, Continuious Burst. Set the focal point in your view finder to the center, look through the view finder and keep the object you want in focus on the center focal point and swing at the waist timed to keep the object you want in focus as close to the center focal point as possible throughout the swing. A gray overcast day is great to get the slow shutter speeds.

I got a few interesting "Are you crazy" looks (well maybe just a little) from the people stopped at the train crossing.

Used a free Lightroom preset called "Matt's Vintage New York-Dark" for the tones. Available Here - http://lightroomkillertips.com/2007/monday-presets-vintage-new-york-look/

That is really interesting - all in grey. A little taste of transformers.
Well done - many regards Andrea

I like those panning shots as well, Ken ;-)

this one works well and adds some very interesting focus on the words, whil blurring the lights ... nice!

    cheers from Bernd

panning freight trains is a good idea because they can't really feel stalked and get angry at you. people can! happened to me the other day, when practicing my non-existent panning skills on pedestrians. i got confronted a lot! this picture here is my favorite of your two freight train shots because it shows the power of the subject so well! amazing how you succeeded in keeping your balance and the words in focus! have to say that i feel quite reverential towards long freight trains because of an incident that happened to me in a suburb of sydney, australia, a few years ago: i was waiting for my local railway line on the platform, when suddenly a freight train passed through, completely without decelerating! it's airstream hit me full force, first sucked me towards the edge of the platform then violently pushed me back. fortunately, there was a bench right behind me. so i fell into it and clung to it for dear life. 5 minutes later the last car was gone. then silence, and after that a collective sigh and curse on the platform – apparently i hadn't been the only one scared… ; )))) greetings, sabine. p.s.: the red "lines" of light are great!

Agreat result, I find myself looking and looking to see what I can find and just keep coming back to the sign....
    Great idea and explanation.
