cerberus at the doors of a deep-frozen mausoleum… sakhalin!!! that island… with an infamous ring to its history: i'm thinking katorga, i'm thinking penal colony. i'm thinking cruelty, hunger, cold and injustice. i'm thinking solzhenitsyn… but most of all i'm thinking chekhov and how much he would have enjoyed the piercing humor lying just below the surface of this shot! sakhalin – that island of despair! the island he, chekhov once traveled to and whose horrors he described in "sakhalin island"… – – gospodin s sobachkoy! the great indoctrinator, lenin, and the fuzzy little dog! hilarious, how they resemble each other – like peas in a pod! same proud, heroic, grim and rigid posture… i'm expecting the dog to give a speech any second now! oh, how chechov would have chuckled perhaps even slapped himself on the knees… come to think of it, i'm thinking bulgakov, too: sobachiye serdce… hilariously and beautifully composed and shot, anatoly! the snow, the sky, the invisible diagonal, the piercing cold… WOW! and… wuff! ; ) greetings, sabine.Christian Bertero 15/03/2015 20:32
