Japanese Quince
Japanese Quince is a thorny deciduous shrub, native to Japan, and was introduced into European gardens in the 18th century.
It is best known for its colorful bright red flowers in early spring.
In autumn, small apple-shaped fruits with a golden colour are produced.
The fruits are edible, but hard and very unpleasant to eat raw. They are however suitable for making liqueurs as well as marmalade.

German name : Japanische Zierquitte
Latin name : Chaenomeles japonica
