Hi David ... since you requested a critique please understand that I am not much of an artist; so here is a "man on the street" reaction:leaves me cold, probably because there is nothing recognizable to pull me in. Like Jaime, I thought about a comb, but it's not rewarding as a puzzle
So, approach it as a pure abstract - in which case I somehow want more from it - more color, more variation, I don't know, but something???
(BTW, I really like your other image, 'prisoner of ember')
