Er gehört mit Þingvellir und den benachbarten Geysiren zum sogenannten Gullni hringurinn (Golden Circle, dt. wörtlich: Goldener Ring oder Goldene Rundfahrt) der berühmtesten Sehenswürdigkeiten Islands.
