The maximum open aperture of F / 1.8, which is used by the Canon 50 / 1.8 STM and any other lenses with F / 1.8, is three more degrees wider than the aperture F / 5.6, which is used in the 'dark' (with low light) celestial lenses on the extreme position of its focal length. This means that the Canon 50 / 1.8 STM is about 10 times lighter (allows more light) than, for example, the universal EF-S 18-55 / 3.5-5.6 IS STM whale lens, which uses a maximum of 50 mm focal length hole, which is only 1: 5.6.
