Kolibris (Trochilidae) haben etwas Magisches, egal wo ich bisher in Amerika auf sie getroffen bin, sie haben mich immer fasziniert. Nach langem Suchen bin ich der Meinung, dass dieses Exemplar aus Costa Rica ein Kolibri der Gattung Amazilia ist. Ich vermute außerdem, dass es sich genauer um eine Braunschwanzamazilie (Amazilia tzacatl) handelt. Ein kleiner, robuster Kolibri, dessen lateinischer Name von Inka-, und Tolteken Helden/innen herrührt. Für mich, ein wahres fliegendes Juwel.

Hummingbirds (Trochilidae) are fascinating birds in my opinion. I was very delighted every time I met one of those little fellas anywhere in America. After a bit of research, I’m pretty sure that this individuum, which I photographed in Costa Rica 2016, is an Amazilia-hummingbird. To be more precisely, I would assume that this is a representative of the small, yet resilient Rufous-tailed hummingbirds (Amazilia tzacatl), named after an Inca heroine (Amazili) and a Toltec warrior (Tzacatl). A truly flying gem to me.
