Die russisch-orthodoxe Christi-Himmelfahrt-Kathedrale in Almaty...
... wurde 1907 ganz aus Holz und im russischen Stil erbaut. Dank ihrer Bauweise überstand sie die beiden grossen Erdbeben von 1910 und 1921 unversehrt.
70% der Bevölkerung Kasachstans gehören dem sunnitischen Islam an, 26% sind Christen (meistens russisch-orthodox).
