Bhutan transnational highway

The distance between teh capital of Bhutan Thimphu and the eastern town Tashigang (or Trashigang) are 552 km. Because much of the geology is unstable, there are frequent slips and landslides, which are aggravated by both summer monsoon and winter snowstorm and frost heave conditions. The road goes zickzack, we counted about 10-14 turns every kilometer. Landslides and rockfalls are usual especially during the raining season. We coudn't go on with a speed more than 30-40 km an hour. Driving this highway during winter time is impossible.
At the present Bhutan has four domestic airports, one, called Yongphulla Airport is closeby Tashigang.

(The foto captured in April 2000 during my third tour in Bhutan the transnational highway from Paro in the west to Sandrup Jongkhar in eastern Bhutan the borderline to Asaam in India. Scanned with NIKON CoolScan V ED.)

Siempre los caminos de montaña cuando son más peligrosos son más bellos. Muy buena foto.
