Atlantikküste bei Paul do Mar

Nach Paul do Mar im Südwesten der Atlantikinsel Madeira gelangt man zu Fuß von Prazeres aus. Vom Hotel Jardim Atlantico steigt man 500 Höhenmeter über den Caminho Real Paul do Mar bis zu diesem Fischerdorf am Meer ab. Ein schmaler Küstenstreifen ermöglicht es, weiter nach Jardim do Mar zu wandern, allerdings nur bei Ebbe.

I remember that in 1969 the access was only by sea or through the cliff ... only the priest dared to use this way to go there to say Sunday Mass. Years later came the ground connection.

  We didn`t use the ground connection. We hiked from Prazeres downhill to Paul do Mar, across the beach to Jardim do Mar, and than uphill back to Prazeres. It was very exhausting, on the beach we had to hurry up, because high tide was comming. LG Thomas.

  I worked there before the airport. The island is a paradise for some and a hell for most of the local population. Much delay and exploration. All done without foundation. Just yesterday a new crash in a "levada" with severely injuried French and German tourists. After 1969, I never came back.
