A paradise destroyed in minutes

Most of the coastal landscape, i.e., beaches, resorts and vegetation, was destroyed by the tsunami. Some replanting programmes have been initiated and a great deal has been accomplished in the rejuvenation of surrounding foliage. Studies suggesting that coastal vegetation may have helped buffer the effects of the waves have ensured that replanting and maintenance of the coastal vegetation have become a priority in the reconstruction of the landscape.
Business with tourists always more important than insure the lives - in Thailand the trade is the same. My first time i came to Khao Lak in 1986 I was told by the local people that Khao Lak in the heavenly landscape never will be an destination for holidaymakers and settlers. The locals said that there is a high flood risk - this was 18 years before and my presumption
that time was completely wrong.
The photo was captured in Khao Lak during our aid operation in Jan. 2005.
