Vera: Ok, I understand, sorry!I guess I was about 30cm from the dragon here. The nice thing about the Canon 180 with a 2X converter is that it keeps the minimum focus distance at 48cm (from the film plane), but the maximum magnification is doubled (2X life size). So the minimum length from the end of the lens (with the 2X converter) is 21cm.
I also used a flash on a bracket to get the light from above. A softbox on the flash does a great job with the light especially on macros. Underexposed the background a bit to get the main subject more focused. Together with a monopod, I think that's the whole setup. Shot with a Canon 30D.

I am experimenting with an Raynox Close up converter
in the moment. I have to keep 18cm distance to the object.
How close had you been for this capture, Ludvig?

Thank you all for the nice comments!Sue: I used a Canon 180mm lens with a 2X converter for this image. I "worked" with this dragon for appr. an hour to let it get used to me and to be able to get a close as possible.
This is (I guess) the first time I actually have got really good details of the pattern in the eyes, so yes, I'm happy with this one!
