The Living Forest (105) : Wood Anemone

The Wood Anemone is one of the earliest blooming wild spring flowers in the forest.

The flowers lack both nectar (!) and fragrance, but the leaves smell musky.
Though so innocent in appearance, the plant contains poisonous chemicals that are toxic to both animals and men.

It is said that the Wood Anemone blooms at the same time as the return of the swallow from Africa.

Dutch name : Bosanemoon
German name : Buschwindröschen
Latin name : Anemone nemorosa

what a beautiful shot!!! and what a beautiful spring flower! so fresh and clean looking! and it brings back happy memories of childhood. we used to always go out and look for them around easter when i was little. and i was allowed to pick a few and try to get them home to put them in a vase – they always wilted so quickly… never knew they were poisenous, though – now i'm glad i survived those "early spring adventures" ; ))! greetings, sabine.
