Cowslip is a low growing herbaceous plant with fine clusters of intense, yellow flowers between march and april.
The picture shows the subspecies ‘macrocalyx’ which is native specific to the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Iran and Turkey where it grows in mountain meadows.
Dutch name : Gulden sleutelbloem
German name : Echte Schlüsselblume
Latin name : Primula veris var. macrocalyx
Great Image of this herbal plant! I have seen an orchid version of cowslip growing as a wildflower in Western Australia, Margaret River. Cheers Renate http://www.mronline.com.au/flowers/cowslip.htm
amazing sharpness and beautiful details in the subtly and very agreeably lit yellow blossoms, and the textures of the wrinkly leaves are fascinating! spring at its best, and a shot that makes me jealous, as i'm always having such a hard time photographing both yellow and purple blossoms. purple is always turned into blue by my little olympus, and no matter how hard i try (changing iso, experimenting with on/off flash etc.), my yellows always seem overexposed… greetings, sabine.
Beautiful image of cowslip, as always. It's even growing in my garden. Since the still cold, it does not exist yet. It is used in folk medicine as a powerful expectorant for bronchitis and pneumonia.
Regards, Vera
