Sie sitzt auf dem Ast einer Pinie im abendlichen Gegenlicht.
In Europa das bei weitem lauteste Insekt, gut einen halben Kilometer weit zu hören. Die Männchen singen, solange die Sonne Kraft hat; schon eine vor die Sonne ziehende Wolke läßt sie verstummen. Der Gesang ist schrill knatternd mit über 100 Tönen pro Minute und kann stundenlang ohne Pause vorgetragen werden, gewöhnlich hoch in den Bäumen. Sehr scheu und flugbereit.
