Yes, the shepherd looks like having a hard life.
The interesting thing is, that the pink Pagri gives it a very contradictory meaning.

Hard work is probably normal to this shepherd, for he's got no other option. Very nice pic with great colours, and this meditating look in his eyes is just wonderful.

A very good shot of this Indian shepherd. During my visit to India, I was shocked to see the poverty in that country. By far the worst I have ever seen.

Excellent portrait as the unsharp background establishes the link to his profession. He looks worried and his face reflects the hardship of his life. He may be thinking about something. Holding his hands around the stick indicates a relaxed position despite his unhappy face. The colored turban is the highlight and attracks the observer's eyes.
In six weeks I shall be in India as well.
