High Speed Rail across the Susquehanna

With HHP-8 high speed electric locomotive No. 664 on the point, this Amtrak Northeast
Corridor express speeds across the Susquehanna River Bridge on a springtime afternoon.

The impressive span, built by the Pennsylvania Railroad, connecting the northeastern Maryland
towns of Havre de Grace and Perryville, is a major feature along the Northeast Corridor.

Once upon a time, the bridge carried such legendary express trains as the “Congressionals” between
New York and Washington, pulled by the mighty GG-1 electric locomotives in their pin-striped PRR livery. (*)

This southbound express, which a few moments ago blasted through the Perryville
station (on an inside high-speed track, safely away from the platform) is heading for the
Havre de Grace end of the bridge, thence on to Baltimore and Washington.

"inside high-speed track" – wow, now that sounds exciting! won't ever forget the day, when i was waiting for a gemütlich suburban train on a gemütlich suburban train station platform in sydney, australia. imagine me whistling peacefully away, when suddenly… bam! a loooong freight train passed through at full speed! the air stream pushed me back in the bench behind me, where i clung on for dear life – took about 15 min for the last car to pass through! wait, did i tell this story before in one of my comments? i may have… well, please forgive me, if i did, but traumas need to be talked about! ; ))) great, how in your image the train and the bridge seem to be completely at one with each other, while the tough iron (?) of its structure clashes beautifully with the seemingly fragile poles and cables in the air. nice correspondence between the blue nose of the locomotive and the patches of blue sky, too! greetings, sabine.
