The Living Forest (238) : Honeysuckle Azalea (2)

Yesterday I showed a forest scene with a blooming Honeysuckle Azalea as highlight (see picture below).
Here’s a macro shot that shows the beauty of the Honeysuckle Azalea flowers in full detail.

Honeysuckle Azalea is a huge shrub native to southeastern Europe and southwest Asia.
The bright yellow flowers are strongly perfumed, but -what is generally little known- their nectar is toxic !

The shrub is widely cultivated in western Europe but is also locally naturalised and colonised in mainly wet forests.

Dutch name : Bosazalea
German name : Pontische Azalee (auch Gelbe Alpenrose genannt)
Latin name : Azalea pontica (syn. Rhododendron luteum)
