Melancholy

Whenever we go back to West Virginia, we end up driving within yards of scene. For some reason it calls to me, yet I sense a feeling of melancholy too.It sets off a busy rail line for one and a bit away from other houses as well. Also the old store setting unused and unwanted adds tension. With the advent of tractor trailers as well as interstate highways this area of West Virginia has lost it factories and economy . I was going to edit the image but after trying several times, I found this unaltered shot more powerful.

even more so in winter, i guess, with the forest on the hill behind the buildings all bleak and barren looking, stressing the progressing dilapidation rather than distracting attention from it! leaving it unedited seems a plausible choice! a place that's seen better times and is no longer a destination but, metaphorically speaking, only passed by in transit (i see a st. andrew's cross/railroad crossing sign) – sad… greetings, sabine.

Oh yes, you can find scenes like this here in the Lower Mainland east of Vancouver .... memories from the past, an old trainline .... melancholy indeed, and the snow even accentuates it more !!!
    greetings, Adele
