Wéris, the Belgian Stonehenge (5)

Wéris is a megalithic site in the south of Belgium and is known as the ‘Belgian Stonehenge’.

Of course it can not really be compared to with the very impressive Stonehenge monument in the UK, but there are quite some many interesting prehistoric relics, graves and monuments to be seen.

Scientists even think that, in the prehistorical Bronze Age, Wéris might well has been one of the most important megalithic centers on the European continent.

This is the Southern dolmen, another 5000 years old megalithic gallery-tomb.
20 blocks puddingstone form the dolmen that however is not in good shape anymore as it has partly collapsed, but the spot still evokes mythical feelings.
The half circular entrance in the front stone is still good visible.

Also this dolmen was originally covered by a tumulus and was discovered in 1888.
Remains of human skeletons were found in the central burial chamber of at least a dozen individuals of different ages.
