    Good view of the Lavabo in the middle of the courtyard. one of the carved panels can be seen on the left hand side
    The lavabo is huge water vessel used by monks to wash thier hands before eating was built around 1220. part of an earlier lavabo about 1160-80 were reused notably the carved panels and main basin. the lavabo was an octagonal building with open arcades which support a roof. the central structures was a three storeys water was fed into a circular cistern and flowed through the mouth of sixteen carved heads into a shallow trough were sixteen monks could wash.
