The significance of this image was not realised for some time after it was taken and ultimately become an important photograph for me. The subject closest to the camera is my uncle Royston and my father is out of focus behind him.
Although, at this time my father was experiencing some pain, little did we know that he was terminally ill and the irony of this image is he was already fading away out of our lives …
I don’t have many photographs of my father … If only the two men had been reversed in the frame … a lesson for us all ... take pictures of those closest to you ...
