Should have used a prime but I was too lazy. Is it just the lack of bokeh?

The patterns of the background clash with the details of the tree in focus. Actually the bark is not really in focus either, and the contrast in this section of the image is far too narrow.But the real problem is the image does not project anything of significance. It doesn't grab me or invokes any emotion. Its just a tree with some crummy writing on it.
I know this comment makes me very unpopular, but you did ask for an honest critique.
