The rose-red gem

Jordan Petra
Petra the biblical Rose-red Nabatean capital in the middle of the Jordanian desert, a thriving city in the 1st century BC, was the most important trading center between East and West. It remained unknown till 1812 when the Swiss explorer Johann Ludvigh Burckhardt brought it's embalmed in the rock mythical ruins in the open. Petra was chosen by the Smithsonian Magazine as one of the 28 places to see before you die..(exageration?...)

Such intricate detail in the craving of the building standing out well from its surrounding. Figures give you the scale of it. Makes you wonder how long it took to do.
    :-)) Harold.

An ancient and magical place very well taken by your good self Alexander.
It is to be hoped that it does not get ruined by too many tourist tramping all over it.

    :))
