The Middle Ages (93) : Witch

This series is an attempt to illustrate how life was going on in the Middle Ages.

In those dark times, it was generally believed that a witch was a woman who practiced sorcery and devil-worship.
Usually, however, it was an innocent woman, randomly chosen by the clergy.

The persecution of these so called witches was widespread.
Witchcraft was considered a crime against christianity and lots of innocent women have suffered and died from brutal tortures……under approval of the Pope !

A convicted woman was either burned alive at the stake or beheaded.

Photographed at medieval festival of castle Franchimont (Belgium)

***

Of course, my picture is a sterotype presentation of a witch, like we know from fairy tales in which she is commonly portrayed as a wicked dirty woman with long claw-like fingernails who could fly on brooms.
In reality however, every woman could be accused from witchcraft.

Oh yes, this is a witch! ;))
We just watched a film about Macbeth in school today and this photo reminds me of one of the witches, that were a little bit crazy to be honest ;))
And there's another thing that comes to my mind immediatly: If two witches were watching two watches, which witch would watch which watch? *smile* ;))))
    Great Photo!
    Greetings,
    Jasmin

Awfully ... how many poor people had to die in the middle age, because of the stupidity of some people.
But the other side was ... people lernt solidarity ... born out of anguish ... but they lernt!
Maybe we begin to process the pain, resuling out of this time, while we selebrate those Middle-Age festivals ... just enjoying the best sides of this time.
You did a very very good work!*******
Best wishes for you, Dagmar :-)

Da gehört Mut dazu sich so hässlich schminken zu lassen. Der Maskenbildner hat gute Arbeit geleistet.
