The Fungi World (80) : Stinkhorn
The Stinkhorn with its phallic shape when mature, has a strong and very VERY(!) unpleasant odour, but despite its foul smell, it’s not poisonous.
This fungus emerges from an ‘egg’ beneath the surface and the body grows extremely rapidly from the egg, taking just 1 and a half hour to reach full size with a length up to 20cm. high !
In the Middle Ages, Stinkhorn sap was used as a love potion.......

German name : Stinkmorchel
Latin name : Phallus impudicus

As kids calling somebody a "alte Stinkmorchel" was one of many nasty names we had. Now - looking at this fungi ...... it's not such a bad name after all, being edible and then the shape ...... your excellent macro is great seemingly showing the "shell" and such fine details of the area around.Just went through half of your fungi images, Mark .... a fantastic collection and perfect for book illustrations.

Auf so einen Fund warte ich noch.Das Bild ist schon schön Mark,aber ein klein wenig muss ich als Pilzfotograf schon nörgeln.Ich hätte ein Hochformat gemacht und von vorne noch etwas aufgehellt.Die linke Hälfte wirkt schon etwas dunkel.Die Aufnahmequalität vom Pilz gefällt mir schon sehr gut.
