The Fungi World (157) : Birch Polypore

During my winter hike on the ‘Kalmthoutse Heide’ (one of the greatest National Parks of Belgium), I spotted this Birch Polypore.

The tree on which the fungus grows, was victim of a huge heathland fire last spring.
The white birch bark is totally blackened, but the spores of this fungus survived miraculously well the burning fire, resulting in this remarkable growth !
(in the background one can see clearly still visible traces of the fire)
