San Lorenzo district
San Lorenzo district is the beating heart of Florence, a wonderful merge of history, art and folk colour. It is dominated by San Lorenzo Basilica situated at the centre of the district and claiming to be the oldest church in Florence concecrated in 393. It is considered the church of Medici family and is famous for housing the Medici Chapels that form part of the monumental complex developped over almost two centuries in close connection with the adjoining church designed to be the burial place of the family members. The Medici Chapels are decorated with Michelangelo's sculpture masterpieces.
San Lorenzo is also a place full of local colour with restaurants, bars cafes and with Florence's biggest and most colorful open street market with hardly anything missing!...

Your great photo of that wonderful building brings back memories! If there only wasn't that market adjacent to the church from ancient times. But that's unfortunately our reality, isn't? There is nothing that's not comercialized.Kind regards,

This is one scene that I would like to have seen in colour. Those market stalls look as though they are especially colourful set against what I assume is the San Lorenzo Basilica.:))
