The northern gannet (Morus bassanus) is a goose-sized seabird in the gannet family. Found only on Heligoland in Germany, the northern gannet is the largest and heaviest species of gannet. Gannets are scuba divers, diving into the water at speeds of up to 100 km/h.
Gannets lay only a single egg at a time, which is incubated by the parents for between 42 and 46 days. They have the longest incubation period. If the egg is lost, a new one is laid.
The northern gannet defends its territory around its nest extremely aggressively, engaging in fierce beak battles with intruders. As can be seen here
