They are called Sky Pilot. They only grow at very high elevation. I noticed these while climbing the ridge between Mount Maclure and Mount Lyell in Yosemite National Park, around 13.000 feet (just under 4,000 metres).Nils Koppaetzky 12/01/2011 1:14
