Sacrifice and Storm Clouds

Two gilded bronze neo-classical equestrian sculptures flank the eastern entrance to Washington's Memorial Bridge.

Together they are called "Arts of War." This one is known as "Sacrifice."

The bridge spans the Potomac River, connecting the District of Columbia at the Lincoln Memorial to Virginia, providing
access to Arlington National Cemetery.

As I was shooting along the river in the late afternoon of a late summer's day,
a weather front was approaching from the northwest.

As the storm clouds built over the Potomac and the sky began to turn an ominous slate,
I imagined the bronze couple on the "Sacrifice" sculpture speaking to each other...
something to the effect of "What matters this puny tempest to such as we?"

From an Ilford XP2 Super 400 film image.
