Rubens country
During the last 5 years of his life, when he lived on the countryside in castle ‘Het Steen’ at Elewijt (see picture below), the world famous painter Peter Paul Rubens made wonderful landscape paintings of the area around the castle that can be admired in several of his works.
They give us an excellent idea how this region looked like in the 17th. century.
My picture shows one of the Master’s favourite spots in the Zenne valley.
