Oriental Paperbush

Oriental paperbush, also known as mitsumata, is a beautiful, deciduous ornamental shrub, native to China.

It blooms with light-scented, golden-yellow flowers from February to April, before the leaves open.

The bark fibres of this plant are used for making the handmade Japanese tissue called "mitsumata paper" which is also used for banknotes as the paper is very durable.

Dutch name : Papierstruik
German name : Japanisher Papierbush (auch Mitsumata genannt)
Latin name : Edgeworthia chrysanta
