Domestic sheep are most likely descended from the wild mouflon (see picture below) and together with goats, it’s one of the earliest animals in history that was domesticated by man for wool, meat and milk.
In both ancient and present religious rituals, sheep were and are still used as a sacrificial animal.

German name : Hausschaf
Latin name : Ovis aries
