Ta Prohm (???????????????) or T? Brahm means "Ancestor Brahma”. It was completed in 1186. its original name was Rajavihara (????????), which means "Royal Monastery". Built by King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist temple, it was dedicated to his mother. After the fall of the Khmer Empire in the 15th century, the temple was abandoned and neglected for centuries. During this time, kapok (Ceiba pentandra) and other trees took roots between the stones and grew out of the ruins, creating spectacular scenaries. When the effort to conserve and restore the temples of Angkor began in the early 21st century, the École française d'Extrême-Orient decided that Ta Prohm would be left largely as it had been found, as a "concession to the general taste for the picturesque."
