Maya

Mexico Yucatan peninsula Chicken Itza Ancient Maya territory
In Chicken Itza, the old Maya capital and under the shadow of the imposing pyramid, the architectural emblem of their outstanding Pre-Colombian civilization, a Mexican couple play volley ball enjoying the scenery of the picturesque site.
The Maya Pre-Colombian population is beleived to have settled this area as early as 2000 BC but reached it's highest state of development from the 1st century AD till the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors. The Maya are noted for introducing the only known fully developped written language of the Pre-Colombian Americans and, also, for an extremely high standard in arts, architecture, mathematical and astronomical fields.

passing time vs. gathering it: a casual play of volleyball vs. the awe-inspiring glow of an architecture built to last eternally! oh, and by the way: thanks, leonid, for adding another nightmare to my collection! never thought about it before but i guess those steps were designed for ascension only! ; )) greetings, sabine.

The building stands out well against the dark sky. The volley players contrast well the two eras

a fantastic capture, Alexander, as this impressive pyramid stands tall reaching into the big sky and all its fine structural details are so sharp in black and white ... a great scene combining antiquity and these young kids playing ball !!
    greetings, Adele
