The island of Neuwerk surrounded by tidal flats is located in the estuary of the river Elbe where it flows out into the Southern North Sea. The lighthouse was originally built in the 14th century as a watch- and defence-tower against pirates. Climbing up the 100-something steps it's possible to visit the top of the tower and enjoy the view of the surrounding landscape...
