Grey Herons
End of march this year, 2 grey heron chicks were born in this nest located 40 meter high in a dead tree.
About 10 weeks later now, they are gradually getting ready to leave the nest and make their first flight.
Dutch name : Blauwe reiger
German name : Graureiher
Latin name : Ardea cinerea

wonderful blending of greys with the light blue background. At the coast (Swakopmund) I have been watching a pair for years.They have made their nest in the artificial palm hiding a telecom mast.They also breed once year and I have watched a few youngsters, they only seem to manage to raise one chick at a time.Philomena Hammer 15/06/2018 13:11

Noch nie habe ich Graureiher in einem Nest auf Bäumen gesehen, deshalb finde ich deine Aufnahme sehr interessant und auch gut, Mark.Liebe Grüße zu dir, Elfi C.

what an excellent capture of these young herons ... very beautiful ...our large rookery in Stanley Park has a great number of nests, but
so concealed and high up that you can never see the birds :-(( ...
